6221A tragic accident occurred in Navoi on January 19, when Jasurjon Muhammadov, a road patrol inspector, was struck and killed by a car while on duty. The incident took place at approximately 1:45 a.m. on Islam Karimov Street in Navoi city, as reported by Fayozjon Kasimov, press secretary of the Regional Internal Affairs Department.
While carrying out his duties, Muhammadov made a stop signal to the driver of a Kia Sonet car, which was violating traffic rules by driving without a license plate. The driver, however, ignored the signal, drove in the opposite direction, and hit the inspector. Following the collision, the driver fled the scene, leaving the officer to die on the spot.
The driver was later identified as S.M., a 10th-grade student born in 2008 and enrolled at the 8th general education school in Navoi. The car, registered to the student's father, was found in a hidden location during a quick investigation and was subsequently impounded.
Muhammadov, born in 1993, was a married man and father of two children.
In response to the incident, the press secretary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs urged parents to take greater responsibility, emphasizing that many recent accidents are caused by minors who lack the necessary permits to drive. "We ask parents to pay attention to their children and refrain from allowing them to drive vehicles," Kasimov stated in an interview with QALAMPIR.UZ.
An investigation into the accident is currently underway.
