According to the report, the woman had endured years of domestic violence and was eventually forced to file for divorce.
On August 12, the Navoi Regional Civil Court reviewed the couple’s case and granted a three-month reconciliation period. The court also ordered the husband to pay alimony for their four minor children. The next day, on August 13, the man called his wife and demanded that she abandon her claim for alimony, warning her, “Don’t expect anything good from me.”
On the morning of August 14, he allegedly drove his Damas car out of his yard and struck his wife, who was walking along the roadside. As a result, the woman sustained severe injuries, including spinal fractures and nerve damage, leaving her paralyzed from the waist down. She remains in critical condition at a hospital. Her relatives said they have spent a significant amount on her treatment and are now in debt. The woman is scheduled to undergo surgery in Tashkent, but the family reportedly lacks the necessary funds.
Relatives of the victim also stated that the perpetrator has refused to contribute to her medical expenses. A criminal case has been opened against him under Article 266 of the Criminal Code — violation of traffic safety rules or operation of vehicles.
However, according to the relatives, the investigation did not initially classify the case as an intentional act, choosing a lighter charge that carries a maximum penalty of three years in prison. The man has also not been detained and continues to send threatening messages to his wife, reportedly warning her that “nothing good will happen.”
It is worth noting that earlier, a separate case was reported in the Surkhandarya region, where a man allegedly tortured his wife and five-month-old child for several months, keeping them locked in a barn.
