Navbahor Hamidova makes history in Uzbek women’s boxing

Navbahor Hamidova has etched her name in the history of Uzbek boxing by becoming the first female boxer from Uzbekistan to win a gold medal at the Boxing World Cup. The tournament is nearing its conclusion in Astana, Kazakhstan. The news was reported by the National Olympic Committee of Uzbekistan.

In the final, Hamidova delivered a commanding performance, defeating Olympic and three-time world champion Busenaz Surmeneli of Turkey with a unanimous score of 5:0. With this win, she avenged her previous two losses to the Turkish boxer.

Thanks to her victory, the Uzbek national team wrapped up the competition with one gold and four bronze medals. Hamidova’s gold came in the -65 kg weight category.

The bronze medals were won by:

  •  Feruza Kazakova (-54 kg)
  • Aziza Zokirova (-75 kg)
  • Sohiba Rozmetova (-80 kg)
  • Oltinoy Sotimboyeva (+80 kg)
