A prevention inspector in Chust district, Namangan region, was detained for allegedly taking a bribe in exchange for helping illegally move livestock across the border, the State Security Service reported.

According to the report, the prevention inspector of the Chust District Department of Internal Affairs demanded $2,000 from a citizen born in 1994, citing the fact that he had left a complaint filed against the citizen unreviewed. In February this year, the inspector allegedly received $700 from him.

The inspector then continued his illegal actions and demanded the remaining $1,300 from the citizen, as well as another $2,000 in exchange for providing protection in the future while illegally moving livestock across the Uzbek-Kyrgyz state border. In total, he allegedly requested $3,300.

During an operation conducted jointly by officers of the State Security Service, the Department under the Prosecutor General’s Office and the Main Department of Internal Security of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, he was detained while receiving the money.

A criminal case has been opened against the prevention inspector under Article 165, which covers extortion, and Article 168, which covers fraud, of the Criminal Code. Investigative actions are underway.
