The trial of Mubashshir Ahmad (Alisher Tursunov), a religious scholar and blogger, as well as the founder of the information and analytical portal "Azon Global", has been postponed to September 8 due to the absence of several witnesses. This was reported by "Azon Global".
On August 19, an open trial began in the Uchtepa District Criminal Court to consider the criminal case against Mubashshir Ahmad in the first instance. The press secretary of the Supreme Court, Aziz Obidov, called on media representatives and bloggers to avoid creating conditions for social pressure on the court.
He stressed that, under the presumption of innocence, the defendant is considered innocent until proven guilty by a court verdict that has entered into legal force. Therefore, social media users are urged not to engage in speculation or make premature conclusions regarding Alisher Tursunov’s guilt or innocence, as this issue is subject solely to legal assessment by the court.
A criminal case was initiated against Tursunov under Article 244-1 (preparation, storage, distribution, or display of materials threatening public safety and public order) and Article 244-3 (illegal preparation, storage, import, or distribution of religious materials) of the Criminal Code. A preventive measure of detention was applied.
It is worth noting that in May this year, Alisher Tursunov was detained at his home in the Bahçesehir district of Istanbul as a suspect. Later, reports circulated on social media claiming he had been extradited from Turkey to Uzbekistan. Subsequently, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Uzbekistan officially confirmed his extradition.
