Mirziyoyev, Japarov, and Rahmon sign historic agreement

5427Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev participated in a trilateral meeting today, March 31, in the city of Khujand alongside Tajikistan’s President Emomali Rahmon and Kyrgyzstan’s President Sadyr Japarov. At the conclusion of the meeting, a historic agreement was signed regarding the junction point of the state borders of Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan. Additionally, the three leaders adopted a joint declaration. The President’s press service reported this development.
At the start of the meeting, the heads of state exchanged greetings for Ramadan Eid and Nowruz, the holiday of renewal and the arrival of spring, wishing peace, prosperity, and progress to their nations.
President Mirziyoyev congratulated Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan on the successful resolution of all outstanding issues and the signing of the agreement on the delimitation of the state border.
It was emphasized that this document, along with the newly signed agreement on the junction point of the three countries’ state borders, will contribute to stability and sustainable development while enhancing the region’s international standing. The newly unveiled "Friendship Stele" was also highlighted as a new symbol of strengthening neighborly relations, trust, and strategic partnership among the three nations.
The Uzbek president outlined key priorities for practical cooperation, emphasizing the importance of maintaining active and reliable high-level communication.
This week, Samarkand will host the first "Central Asia–European Union" summit, as well as a Climate Forum focused on common environmental threats in the region.
In May, a summit with the Gulf Arab states is scheduled, followed by the seventh Consultative Meeting of Central Asian Leaders in September.
In this regard, the leaders stressed the importance of preparing a well-structured agenda for these upcoming events and continuing regular consultations through foreign ministries to develop a unified approach.
Special attention was given to enhancing cooperation between border regions.
It was noted that over the past few years, trade between Uzbekistan and both Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan has increased more than tenfold, with nearly half of this trade occurring in border areas. As a result, the modernization and expansion of border customs checkpoints, along with the development of modern trade and logistics infrastructure, were identified as priorities.
The proposal to establish a trilateral trade platform and launch a permanent industrial and agricultural exhibition-fair was also discussed.
Another key area of focus was industrial cooperation. Uzbek enterprises and private companies are actively investing in the establishment of modern production facilities in neighboring countries.
To support cooperation, President Mirziyoyev expressed readiness to gradually increase the capital of joint investment funds.
The leaders also agreed to continue developing transportation links between their countries. This includes increasing the number of flights and expanding their routes, as well as introducing new bus connections between cities in border regions.
Major regional projects in green energy and transport, as well as water and environmental programs, were also at the center of discussions.
President Mirziyoyev emphasized that governments should work more actively in the economic sector to achieve tangible and immediate results that improve people's well-being.
Ongoing cultural and humanitarian events in Khujand were noted as playing an important role in strengthening friendship and mutual understanding, particularly among the youth.
The Uzbek leader proposed holding joint concerts and friendship festivals in border regions annually during the Nowruz celebrations. He also expressed readiness to host such events in Fergana next year.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan signed a historic agreement on the junction point of their state borders and adopted a joint declaration.
