Mirziyoyev meets with the President of the World Bank Group

3604On September 20, a meeting was held between the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, and the President of the World Bank Group, Ajay Banga. This was reported by the President's press service.
It was reported that the main aspects of widening cooperation between Uzbekistan and the World Bank were discussed at the meeting.
At the beginning of the interview, Mirziyoyev congratulated Ajay Banga on his new position as the President of the World Bank Group and expressed his confidence that under his leadership, the bank will actively support the sustainable economic development of countries.
During the meeting, they discussed issues of support for the following strategic initiatives:
• Expanding the bank's expertise and technical support in the areas of privatization and effective public administration;
• Decarbonization;
• Alternative energy;
• Infrastructure and communications;
• Financing water supply projects and attracting funds to them on the basis of private investments, including public-private partnerships;
• Construction of the Trans-Afghan railway.
It was also agreed that the Bank's Advisory Council, consisting of world business leaders, will participate in the development of measures to increase the flow of direct investments to Uzbekistan. In turn, Ajay Banga highly appreciated the reform program implemented in the country and expressed his readiness to continue the mutually beneficial partnership from now on.
It should be noted that Uzbekistan is one of the largest partner-beneficiaries of the World Bank. The portfolio of joint projects has expanded more than five times in the last six years. The cooperation program, designed until 2026 and providing for the implementation of projects worth a total of 4 billion dollars, covers all priority areas of the development strategy of New Uzbekistan.
