Today 18 November, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, the Vice-President of the European Commission, Joseph Borrell.

In the post-pandemic period, the issues of deepening the partnership between Uzbekistan and the EU to develop rapid economic recovery and interregional interdependence were discussed.

It is noted that the fruitful results of the ministerial meeting in the format of "European Union - Central Asia" held in Samarkand on 17-18 November and the international conference on interdependence on the topic "Global Gateway for Sustainable Development" were highly appreciated.  The head of state thanked the head of European diplomacy for supporting these important events and personally participating in them.

Joseph Borrell, for his part, welcomed Uzbekistan's policy of strengthening regional cooperation and noted that Central Asian countries have achieved great success in this regard.  The European Union intends to expand cooperation with the countries of the region in the fields of politics, trade, investment, digitization, climate change and environment, science, and education.

While discussing the current problems of regional and international security, special attention was paid to regional cooperation in Central Asia, including the development of the situation in Afghanistan.

Based on the results of the conference in Samarkand, it was agreed to develop a joint "road map" and sign an agreement on expanded partnership and cooperation between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the European Union as soon as possible.
