On the 17th May, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received a delegation from the European Union led by the Deputy Chairman of the European Commission, Valdis Dombrovskis within the Samarkand Summit of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

The meeting focused on expanding mutually beneficial cooperation between Uzbekistan and EU institutions, including regional partnership.  Valdis Dombrovskis conveyed warm greetings from European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President Charles Michel to the head of state.  The irreversible democratic and socio-economic reforms implemented in the new Uzbekistan were highly supported.

During the meeting, it was satisfyingly noted that mutual dialogues and effective exchanges have been activated, leading to an increasing pace of cooperation in various sectors such as trade, investment, "green" economy, energy, agriculture, transport and logistics, as well as cultural and humanitarian spheres.  Since the beginning of this year, the volume of trade between Uzbekistan and EU countries has already increased by 65%.  The portfolio of ongoing and prospective projects with leading European companies, banking and financial institutions has surpassed 20 billion euros.

The importance of maintaining an active dialogue with EU institutions, particularly in the economic direction, was emphasized.  Therefore, attention is directed towards matters concerning the adoption of the Extended Partnership and Cooperation Agreement, Uzbekistan's accession to the World Trade Organization, and participation in the "GSP+" system of preferences.
