President Mirziyoyev congratulates Tokayev, highlighting enhanced neighborly relations

5228On May 17, during a telephone conversation, Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev warmly congratulated Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on his birthday. President Mirziyoyev extended heartfelt wishes for great success in the responsible conduct of state affairs and in guiding the prosperity and development of the Kazakh nation. During the call, the two leaders discussed the urgent issues of further developing and strengthening the good-neighborly relations, strategic partnership, and alliance between Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. They reviewed plans for future bilateral meetings as well as multilateral events.
Special emphasis was placed on continuing efforts to develop a new agenda for practical bilateral cooperation in key areas such as trade, industrial cooperation, efficient logistics, agriculture, tourism, education, and cultural exchange.
For background, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev was born on May 17, 1953, in Almaty. His father, Kemel Tokayev, was a World War II veteran and a renowned writer, while his mother, Turar Shabarbayeva, worked in the linguistics department at the Almaty Pedagogical Institute.
Tokayev first assumed the office of President of the Republic of Kazakhstan on March 20, 2019, as a provisional president following Nursultan Nazarbayev’s resignation, and he was officially elected president on June 9, 2019. In an extraordinary presidential election held on November 20, 2022, he was re-elected for a second term. In that election, according to new constitutional changes, a single seven-year presidential term was introduced. Today, President Tokayev celebrates his 72nd birthday.
