At the invitation of Tajik President Emomali Rahmon, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev will pay a working visit to Tajikistan on October 9–10, the press service of the Uzbek head of state reported.
During the visit, Mirziyoyev will take part in the second summit in the “Central Asia – Russia” format as well as the next meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) in Dushanbe.
The agenda of the upcoming events includes issues related to expanding multifaceted cooperation, strengthening political dialogue, promoting joint projects in trade, economic and investment sectors, as well as deepening cooperation in industry, agriculture, transport, energy, and infrastructure. Continued efforts to enhance cultural and humanitarian exchanges will also be discussed.
The leaders are expected to review current international issues and measures to ensure regional security.
At the conclusion of the summits, a number of joint documents and decisions aimed at further strengthening practical cooperation are expected to be adopted.
Earlier, on March 31 this year, President Mirziyoyev paid a working visit to the city of Khujand, where he was welcomed by President Emomali Rahmon. The visit focused on several historic developments, including the participation of Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov, whose efforts helped resolve long-standing border conflicts with Tajikistan.
Mirziyoyev held a meeting with Rahmon to discuss the implementation of high-level agreements and the further development of allied relations. A key milestone of that visit was the entry into force of the Treaty on Allied Relations between Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. Following the talks, the foreign ministers of both countries signed a protocol confirming the treaty’s ratification in the presence of the two presidents. The agreement, originally signed at a bilateral summit in Dushanbe on April 18 last year, officially entered into force that day.
A trilateral meeting between Mirziyoyev, Rahmon, and Japarov was also held in Khujand, during which a historic agreement was signed on the point of confluence of the state borders of Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan. The three leaders adopted a Joint Declaration as well.
Emomali Rahmon described the signing of the agreement on the convergence point of the three state borders as a “very important event.” President Mirziyoyev congratulated the Tajik and Kyrgyz sides on the final resolution of all outstanding issues and the signing of the border delimitation agreement.
The meetings were rich in symbolic significance, particularly given that they took place in Khujand, a city linking the three neighboring nations. As part of the program of high-level events, Mirziyoyev, Rahmon, and Japarov jointly inaugurated the “Friendship Stele” at the location where the three state borders meet.
Deputy prime ministers of the three countries briefed the heads of state via video link on the completion of construction work and the readiness of the site. During the ceremony, the leaders simultaneously pressed a button installed on a special stand, after which the deputy prime ministers cut the ribbon and officially opened the stele.
