SCO modernization and plans discussed in Tashkent

On March 5, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan received Nurlan Yermekbayev, the Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), who is visiting the country. The meeting, as reported by the Presidential Press Service, focused on pressing issues related to enhancing multilateral partnerships within the SCO framework.

Discussions emphasized the importance of expanding practical efforts to counter common threats to stability and security. Both parties highlighted the need to deepen cooperation based on good neighborliness, trust, and partnership principles.

Special attention was given to continuing the modernization of the SCO, a process initiated at the Samarkand Summit. This includes improving the efficiency of all organizational structures within the SCO.

The meeting also underscored the necessity of implementing several initiatives proposed by Uzbekistan, such as the "New Economic Dialogue" concept.

"These initiatives include agreements on trade facilitation, an e-commerce program, an investment promotion package, a logistics digitization plan, the "SCO Future Technologies" program, and the Food Security Atlas, the report states.

Additionally, preparations for the upcoming SCO Summit in Tianjin, China, were discussed.
