Mirziyoyev receives head of OSCE election observation mission

2027Today, October 25, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with Douglas Wake, the head of the parliamentary election observation mission from the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights. This meeting was reported by the Presidential press service.
During the meeting, the two sides exchanged detailed views on the preparation and conduct of the upcoming parliamentary elections. It was noted with satisfaction that an open and effective dialogue has been established between Uzbekistan and the OSCE, particularly highlighting the fruitful cooperation with the bureau.
The active work of the OSCE's election observation mission was commended as part of the preparations for the elections. Bureau experts have been involved in improving the national election system, with many of their recommendations incorporated into the country's legislation.
The representative of the OSCE expressed sincere gratitude for the attention given to the mission's activities and voiced support for the democratic changes and socio-economic reforms taking place in New Uzbekistan.
Importantly, it was highlighted that this election will be the first held under a mixed electoral system based on the provisions of the updated Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan, which aims to enhance the role of parliament and local representative bodies.
