Mirziyoyev meets with Pakistani General

On August 19, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received a delegation led by General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. The presidential press service reported this.
General Mirza conveyed the greetings and best wishes of Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif to the head of Uzbekistan.
The sides discussed the further development of Uzbek-Pakistani multifaceted cooperation and strategic partnership, focusing on the implementation of agreements reached during the Pakistani Prime Minister’s visit to Uzbekistan in February this year.
The intensification of mutual dialogue and exchanges at various levels was noted with satisfaction. Practical cooperation in the military and military-technical spheres, as well as in combating modern threats and security challenges, was also considered.
Particular attention was given to the early implementation of the trilateral agreement on the construction of the Trans-Afghan railway.
Since the beginning of this year, trade turnover between the two countries has grown by 23 percent, while cargo transportation has increased by 50 percent. Trading houses have been opened in Karachi and Lahore, and the number of direct flights has expanded.
Earlier, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev sent condolences to President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif following the death and injury of many people caused by heavy rainfall and floods in Pakistan’s northwestern regions.
