Mirziyoyev invites Iranian President Pezeshkiyan to visit Uzbekistan

4716On October 11, Uzbekistan's President Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkiyan during an international forum in Ashgabat. Both leaders' press offices reported the meeting.
They focused on enhancing bilateral relations between Uzbekistan and Iran during their discussions. The two leaders expressed satisfaction with the continued active exchanges and cooperation at various levels. They highlighted the growing trade volume and the increasing number of joint ventures between the two countries.
"According to Uzbekistan's presidential press service, both presidents stressed the importance of accelerating ongoing cooperation projects and expanding the range of products covered under the Preferential Trade Agreement. They also discussed international and regional issues of mutual concern" the report states.
The Iranian press service added that President Pezeshkiyan emphasized the need to convene a meeting of the Joint Economic Cooperation Commission between Iran and Uzbekistan. He also extended an invitation to President Mirziyoyev to visit Tehran, highlighting Iran's potential in scientific and industrial sectors as a foundation for future collaboration.
In response, President Mirziyoyev invited President Pezeshkiyan to visit Uzbekistan.
As context, the meeting took place on the sidelines of an international forum in Ashgabat, which was held on October 11 to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the birth of Turkmen poet and philosopher Makhtumkuli Feroghi. The forum was titled "Interdependence of Time and Civilizations – the Basis of Peace and Development."
The event was attended by prominent leaders, including Russian President Vladimir Putin, Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Kyrgyzstan’s President Sadyr Japarov, Tajikistan’s President Emomali Rahmon, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkiyan, Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari, Mongolian President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh, Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan, and representatives from international and regional organizations.
Earlier, President Pezeshkiyan met with Russian President Vladimir Putin. During the same forum, President Mirziyoyev met with Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, the national leader of Turkmenistan and Chairman of the People's Council. Mirziyoyev presented him with a collection of Makhtumkuli’s selected works, translated into Uzbek.
