Mirziyoyev meets with Olaf Scholes

The Presidential Press Service reported that the visit of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, to Germany began with negotiations with the Federal Chancellor of the country, Olaf Scholz.  

The meeting began with Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s thanking the Chancellor of Germany for the warm welcome.

Officials state that Uzbekistan has accepted Germany as its reliable and strategic partner.  In recent years, bilateral relations have been rapidly developing in all directions.  The number of mutual goods exchanges and joint projects has doubled.  The volume of investments from Germany to Uzbekistan reached 5.5 billion dollars, 4 billion dollars of which were attracted in the last six years.

The joint business forum held as part of the visit was highly appreciated by participants. At the end of it, agreements were reached on the implementation of trade, investment and technological projects with a total value of 9 billion dollars. These include cooperation projects in "green" energy, mining, chemical, and pharmaceutical industries, transport infrastructure, agricultural digitization, innovation and other fields.

To support the projects of German companies in Uzbekistan, the parties agreed to develop a large-scale partnership with the banks, "KfW", "Deutsche Bank", and the German International Cooperation Society.

The German government expressed its readiness to support Uzbekistan's accession to the WTO and the signing of the Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement with the European Union as soon as possible.

During the visit, the parties welcomed the signing of the Intergovernmental Declaration on Deepening Multilateral Cooperation.

Olaf Scholz supported Uzbekistan's new regional policy on creating an atmosphere of friendship and mutual trust and deepening integration in Central Asia.

An agreement was reached to launch a forum for dialogue in the format "Germany - Central Asia".
Security in the region, including the situation in Afghanistan, was discussed, and it was noted that there is a need to continue humanitarian projects for this country, including using the possibilities of the logistics complex in Termiz and the educational center for Afghan youth.

Officials paid special attention to the development of transport and logistics. The parties agreed on the joint development of the Trans-Caspian Corridor connecting Central Asia with Europe.
Also, the German delegation highly appreciated the unique exhibition dedicated to the cultural heritage of Uzbekistan that is currently open in Berlin. 

The German government agreed to provide technical support for expanding the teaching of the German language in the regions of our country because of the growing interest in learning German in Uzbekistan. 

In general, 16 intergovernmental and interagency documents were signed in the spheres of economy, trade, finance, education, science and innovation.  At the end of the meeting, the head of Uzbekistan invited German Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz to visit Uzbekistan.
