The President of Uzbekistan proposed to open an office of the UN Counter-Terrorism Department in Central Asia

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has offered to open a representative office for the UN Counter-Terrorism Department in Central Asia.

The President made this proposal in his address to the participants of the high-level international conference «Regional cooperation of the Central Asian States within the framework of the Joint Plan of Action for the implementation of the United Nations Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy».

The President noted that the successful implementation of the counter-terrorism strategy in the region would require constant monitoring and critical evaluation of the implementation of the Joint Plan of Action and the strengthening of mechanisms for coordinating cooperation among Central Asian countries.

The President Mirziyoyev called for close cooperation with leading international and regional organizations dealing with security issues in order to achieve maximum effectiveness in the fight against terrorism in Central Asia.
