Mirziyoyev expresses his condolences to the family of the late President of the Academy of Sciences

Today, on August 29, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the home of Behzod Yuldashev, a member of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis and a distinguished scientist of the Republic of Uzbekistan. This was reported by the President's press service.

The head of state remembered the good deeds of the deceased and his services to the Motherland. The Qur'an was recited, and prayers were offered. Mirziyoyev expressed his condolences to the wife and children of the deceased and wished them patience. They thanked the President for his visit and words of encouragement.

For information, Behzod Yuldashev was born on May 9, 1945, in Tashkent. In 1968, he graduated with honors from the Faculty of Nuclear Physics at Tashkent State University. In 1971, he defended his thesis at the United Institute of Nuclear Research (Dubna), and in 1981, he defended his doctoral thesis in physics and mathematics. He held various positions, including junior researcher at the Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Russian Academy of Sciences, senior researcher at the Institute of Physics and Technology, head of the laboratory, director of the Institute of Nuclear Physics (1990-2006, 2017-2020), and president of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan (2000-2005, since 2017). He also served as a scientific advisor to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA, Vienna, Austria) and chief scientist of the United Nuclear Research Institute (Dubna).

He conducted research as an invited professor at Washington and Stanford Universities (USA) and at the United Nuclear Research Institute (Dubna, Russia). He was also the head of the Department of Nuclear Physics at Tashkent State University (1995-2000).

He was the spokesperson for two scientific experiments conducted by an international team of researchers at Fermilab (USA) and TRIUMF (Vancouver, Canada). He was also involved in research conducted at the Large Hadron Collider of the European Center for Nuclear Research (CERN, Geneva, Switzerland) and at the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research.

He led large-scale projects related to the development of practical solutions for strengthening nuclear security and non-proliferation of nuclear weapons.

In 1990-2006 and 2017-2020, he served as the director of the Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

His main scientific and organizational activities covered issues such as elementary particle physics, nuclear physics, and the use of nuclear technologies in industry, agriculture, and medicine.

He authored more than 400 scientific works, including three monographs and over 20 inventions. Under his scientific guidance, he trained nine doctors of science and around 30 candidates of science.

He was an academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan (2000), a corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan (1994), a doctor of physics and mathematics (1981), and a professor (1987). He was a laureate of the State Prize of the UzSSR named after Beruni (1983) and the International ESO Prize (2004). He was a member of the American Physical Society, an honorary doctor (fellow) of Indiana, Washington (USA), and Cambridge (Great Britain) universities, an academician of the Islamic World Academy (IAS), an honorary doctor of the United Nuclear Research Institute (Dubna, Russia), and an international academician of the Association of Academies of Sciences (MAAN). He was also a foreign member of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Sciences of Kazakhstan, as well as a member of the Higher Attestation Commission under the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia (1995-2005, from 2019 to the present). He served as a member of parliament and senator of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan (2001-2005, from 2020 to the present).

He was awarded the "Mehnat shuhrati (Labour Fame)" and "Fidokorona xizmatlari uchun (For Selfless Services)" orders. He held the honorary title of "Fan Arbobi (Scientist)" of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Republic of Karakalpakstan.
