Mirziyoyev departs for Kazakhstan to attend Central Asia–China summit

President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev departed for Astana today, June 17, to participate in the second Central Asia–China summit. The visit is taking place at the invitation of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, according to the press service of the Uzbek President.

The upcoming summit will focus on strengthening multilateral cooperation and addressing pressing regional and international issues.

During the visit, Shavkat Mirziyoyev is also expected to hold bilateral talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

The first Central Asia–China summit in this format was held in Xi’an, China, in May 2023. The event aimed to enhance partnership among Central Asian countries and China, and to expand practical cooperation.

It is also noteworthy that on June 16, the President of the People’s Republic of China, Xi Jinping, visited Kazakhstan. His aircraft was escorted by fighter jets of the Kazakh Air Defense Forces from the country's border to the capital’s airport.
