President Shavkat Mirziyoev chaired a video conference yesterday, December 12, to assess the progress of winter season preparations. The meeting, involving various officials, addressed the readiness for the upcoming season following rigorous measures taken in the aftermath of the previous winter's challenges.

Considerable efforts were directed towards resolving deficiencies across institutions, enterprises, and neighborhoods, with a particular focus on augmenting energy capacities. Swift actions led to the activation of 675 megawatts, with plans to operationalize 7 stations generating 2.2 thousand megawatts by year-end. Additionally, substantial renovations included the upgrade of 100 substations, 11,500 transformers, and 34,000 kilometers of networks.

Acknowledging the high demand in Tashkent, specific attention was given to the city. Notably, the construction of 2 new substations with a combined capacity of 286 megawatts, renewal of 228 transformers, and 1,130 kilometers of network enhancements were highlighted. Moreover, 260 kilometers of high-voltage cable networks were laid in the city.

During the meeting, the President emphasized the importance of sustained efforts and prompt completion of the outlined program objectives.

Issues within the energy system in certain regions were discussed, with the President particularly noting public concerns expressed on social media platforms. Reports indicated gas shortages at stations in Namangan, increased electricity-related problems in specific districts of Andijan, and frequent power outages in Guzor and Kasbi districts of Kashkadarya.

Addressing these issues, the President instructed the electricity and gas supply officials to prepare emergency response teams, maintain round-the-clock readiness, and bolster the inventory of necessary tools and materials to prevent and rectify such shortcomings.

The implementation of a new coal supply system resulted in the mining of 5.9 million tons of coal this year. Of this, 930,000 tons were allocated for public consumption and an additional 93,000 tons for social purposes. Close monitoring of daily coal deliveries to regional warehouses and the establishment of necessary reserves in facilities transferred to public-private partnerships were stressed.

To enhance public welfare before the New Year holiday, a focus was placed on cultural events, expanded entertainment programs, increased service provisions, and organized discounted trade fairs to prevent unjustified price hikes. Vigilance against price manipulation will be ensured by the General Prosecutor's Office.

Further, there was emphasis on maintaining smooth public transport services, improving amenities at metro and bus stations, road cleanliness, and enhancing traffic safety measures.

The meeting concluded after hearing reports from the Government Commission on winter preparations and other officials.
