Uzbek and Tajik Presidents discuss strategic partnership

1537Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with Tajikistan’s President Emomali Rahmon today, March 31, in the city of Khujand. The presidential press service reported the meeting.
According to the statement, the leaders discussed key issues related to strengthening bilateral friendship, strategic partnership, and alliance as part of high-level agreements.
At the start of the meeting, both presidents exchanged sincere congratulations on the occasion of Ramadan and extended their greetings to the brotherly nations. They also expressed satisfaction with the significant progress in multifaceted cooperation between Uzbekistan and Tajikistan.
It was noted that in 2024, trade turnover between the two countries exceeded $700 million. Cooperation projects in key sectors such as industry, energy, electrical engineering, textiles, and agriculture are being successfully implemented. Effective interregional ties and active cultural and humanitarian exchanges have also been established.
The leaders emphasized the importance of the upcoming intergovernmental commission meeting, where measures to accelerate joint projects will be developed.
Additionally, they exchanged views on the regional agenda, including upcoming multilateral summits to be held in Uzbekistan.
For reference, today, March 31, an agreement on the point of contact of the state borders of Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan is set to be signed. The presidents will also attend a joint concert featuring performances by artists.
