Mirziyoyev meets with von der Leyen

Today, April 3, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen as part of the first Central Asia-EU Summit. The meeting was reported by the presidential press service.  

During the talks, the two leaders exchanged views on prospects for further expanding mutually beneficial cooperation between Uzbekistan and the European Union.  

They also discussed preparations for the upcoming interregional summit and the climate forum scheduled for tomorrow, April 4.  

The first Central Asia-European Union Summit is being held in Samarkand on April 3-4, chaired by President Mirziyoyev. The event is attended by the leaders of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan. Following this, on April 4-5, the inaugural Samarkand Climate Forum will take place at the Silk Road Samarkand Congress Center, bringing together Central Asian leaders, EU representatives, the United Nations, international financial institutions, and leading environmental organizations.  

It is worth noting that on April 2, European Council President António Costa, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and President Shavkat Mirziyoyev arrived in Samarkand to participate in the summit. Later that evening, Mirziyoyev held an informal meeting with European Council President António Costa.
