8055President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has ordered that the issue of heavy traffic congestion at the "Dustlik" border checkpoint between Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan be addressed as a matter of priority. The directive was given during a meeting on April 16, focused on the comprehensive development of the Andijan region.
At the meeting, it was highlighted that Andijan exports goods worth $200 million to Kyrgyzstan annually. In this context, the President emphasized the need to establish free trade and industrial zones in Kurgatepa and Khojaabad, as well as along the Afghan border. He instructed relevant officials to consult with local entrepreneurs to determine the optimal location for such zones and to develop a detailed master plan accordingly.
The President also addressed the public's growing frustration with long queues and delays at the "Dustlik" checkpoint, located in Khojaabad. Ministries and agencies were tasked with identifying the root causes of the congestion and submitting concrete proposals for eliminating the problem as soon as possible.
President Mirziyoyev noted that the implementation of the Uzbekistan–Kyrgyzstan–China railway project would significantly reduce transportation time by one week, shorten the route by 1,000 kilometers, and increase cargo flow tenfold.
“But how prepared are our internal railway networks, customs posts, and stations to accommodate and transport this volume of cargo?” the President asked, calling for a comprehensive assessment and a program of necessary upgrades.
It is worth noting that President Mirziyoyev arrived in the Andijan region on April 15 to review local development initiatives and the living conditions of residents. Speaking at a public event in the “New Uzbekistan” park in New Andijan, he proposed renaming the town after Zakhiriddin Muhammad Babur to honor the historical figure’s legacy. On April 16, during the regional development meeting, the President also announced the allocation of an additional 1 trillion sums to the region.
