Mirziyoyev meets with the UN secretary General

3422Today, on July 1, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, who is in Uzbekistan on an official visit to the Koksaroy residence. This was reported by the President's press service.
During the conversation, issues concerning global and regional peace, stability, and consistent development, as well as the further expansion of multifaceted cooperation between Uzbekistan and the UN, were discussed. The implementation of joint projects aimed at achieving sustainable development goals was also on the agenda. Opinions were exchanged on issues of international and regional importance. The head of state expressed his firm support for the Secretary-General's initiatives to ensure international security and stability, reform the UN and its main bodies, and hold the Future Summit in New York City in 2024.
Cooperation in the development of interdependence in terms of transport, food security, energy, and information security in the region was discussed. The situation in Afghanistan was also addressed, with an emphasis on the need to expand humanitarian aid to the Afghan people and develop a comprehensive strategy for the international community toward this country.
At the end of the meeting, an agreement was reached on the joint development of a cooperation program with the UN for Uzbekistan's sustainable development goals from 2026 to 2030.
For your information, 140 joint programs and projects are currently being implemented with the UN. In 2025, the 43rd General Conference of UNESCO will be held in Samarkand.
