Mirziyoyev pays tribute to Islam Karimov on his birth anniversary

6326On January 30, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev laid a wreath at the monument of Islam Karimov in Tashkent, marking the birth anniversary of Uzbekistan’s First President. This was reported by the President’s press service.
The ceremony was attended by representatives from the chambers of the Oliy Majlis, the Presidential Administration, government officials, intellectuals, and members of the public.
“This is a symbol of the enduring respect for service to the people and the homeland. Under the leadership of Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the memory of our First President has been immortalized, with January 30 now celebrated annually. A scientific and educational memorial complex was established in Tashkent, and visiting the Mausoleum of Islam Karimov during trips to Samarkand has become a cherished tradition,” the report stated.
During the ceremony, verses from the Quran were recited, and prayers were offered in memory of Islam Karimov’s contributions for the benefit of the people. Similar commemorative events took place in Samarkand and Karshi.
Islam Karimov, Uzbekistan’s First President, was born on January 30, 1938, in Samarkand. He served as head of state from 1991 until his passing in 2016.
