On December 28, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan had a telephone conversation with Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, the national leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the People's Council of Turkmenistan. This information was reported by the head of state's press service.

At the start of the discussion, both leaders warmly exchanged New Year's greetings, wishing peace, prosperity, and success for their nations. Additionally, Mirziyoyev conveyed his sincere regards and best wishes to Turkmenistan's President, Serdar Berdymukhamedov.

The conversation delved into urgent matters regarding the further development of the strong friendship, good neighborliness, and deepened strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan. Progress on previously established agreements, including inter-parliamentary dialogues, was also discussed. The message highlighted the mutual satisfaction in significantly enhancing cooperation across various priority areas.

The statement noted an increase in the volume of bilateral trade, expected to exceed $1 billion by the end of 2023. Trade houses have been established in Tashkent and Ashgabat, with continued efforts towards creating the "Shavot-Tashovuz" border trade zone.

Collaboration among leading enterprises in industry, energy, agriculture, and transport between both nations is on the rise, while interregional relations continue to expand. Successful meetings were held this year for the Intergovernmental Commission and the Council of Businessmen.

Furthermore, discussions revolved around practical aspects of regional cooperation in Central Asia, alongside plans for meetings in 2024.
