CIS conducts joint anti-terrorist exercises in Uzbekistan

On September 5, the joint anti-terrorist exercise "Sharq-Aksilterror - 2024" was conducted at the military range of the State Security Service of the Republic of Uzbekistan with the support of the CIS Counter-Terrorism Center. This was reported by the State Security Service.

"The joint measures to neutralize terrorist threats affecting border security and to address public disturbances aim to enhance the capabilities of the competent authorities of the CIS member states," the report states.

It was noted that heads and representatives of competent bodies from the SCO and CIS member states, as well as observers from relevant international organizations, were invited to the anti-terrorist exercises.

Special and military equipment, including aviation and unmanned aerial vehicles, were utilized in scenarios involving hostage rescues and the neutralization of simulated terrorists at critical infrastructure sites.

The event was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Defense, the National Guard, as well as officials from the General Prosecutor's Office and the Ministry of Health. The exercises highlighted elements of special military operations aimed at dismantling illegal armed terrorist groups, as well as measures to suppress public disturbances and address crisis situations.

The training demonstrated the high level of preparedness of the forces involved in neutralizing simulated terrorist threats and the effective cooperative actions among the ministries and agencies.

The joint anti-terrorist exercise "Sharq-Aksilterror - 2024" underscored the importance of practical cooperation among the special services of the Commonwealth of Independent States. The exercises enhanced experience in planning and executing joint anti-terrorist operations, developed coordinated methods to identify and counter terrorist activities, and improved public order management," the report said.

For reference, this exercise marks the 20th anti-terrorist event supported by the CIS Anti-Terrorism Center, with the Republic of Uzbekistan having participated in six of them.
