E'zozkhon Karimova appointed Minister of Preschool and School Education

E'zozkhon Gopirjonovna Karimova has been appointed Minister of Preschool and School Education. The news was announced by Presidential Spokesperson Sherzod Asadov.

Her candidacy was approved by deputies of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis. With this appointment, Karimova becomes the fifth person to lead the education sector in Uzbekistan over the past decade.

E'zozkhon Karimova was born in 1973 in Namangan district, Namangan region. She studied at the Faculty of Philosophy of Tashkent State University from 1990 to 1996. In 2021, she headed a department at the Presidential Agency for the Development of Creativity and Specialized Schools, later becoming an advisor to the director of the Presidential Agency for Educational Institutions. From 2023 to 2024, she served as Vice-Rector at New Uzbekistan University. In May of this year, she was appointed Deputy Minister of Preschool and School Education and concurrently served as Rector of the Nizami National Pedagogical University.

Previously, the ministry was led by Ulugbek Inoyatov (2013–2018), Sherzod Shermatov (2018–2021), Bakhtiyor Saidov (2021–2022), and Hilola Umarova (2022–2025).

It is worth noting that the Ministry of Public Education of Uzbekistan was established in 1991. On January 1, 2023, it was restructured and renamed the Ministry of Preschool and School Education.

Hilola Umarova, who previously held the post, was recently relieved of her duties and appointed Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration for Education Reform.
