Celebration of the 150th anniversary of Mahmudkhodja Behbudi with nationwide events

The 150th anniversary of Mahmudkhodja Behbudi, the founder of the Turkestan Jadid movement, renowned writer, public figure, publisher, and educator, will be celebrated extensively across Uzbekistan. This was formalized in a presidential resolution issued on January 3.  

The resolution outlines a series of initiatives aimed at honoring Behbudi’s contributions to the nation and the region:  

- An organizational committee will be established to oversee the celebration of Behbudi’s anniversary.  
- A collection titled "Selected Works" along with scientific and popular books reflecting Behbudi’s life and activities will be published.  
- Plays and screenings of the film series "Mahmudkhodja Behbudi" and the documentary “Halq Yuragi” will be staged for public viewing.  
- An art exhibition featuring works dedicated to Behbudi and the Turkestan Jadid movement will be organized at the Academy of Arts' Central Exhibition Hall.  
- Students, cadets, and university scholars will participate in an essay competition titled “The Lessons of Mahmudkhodja Behbudi,” with top participants receiving awards.  
- Creative meetings, literary evenings, and educational events dedicated to Behbudi’s legacy will take place in schools, libraries, workplaces, neighborhoods, and military units across the country.  
- Efforts will be made to popularize Behbudi’s works among youth through digital platforms and promotional content.  
- In October 2025, Samarkand State University will host an international conference on the “Current Issues of Studying Mahmudkhodja Behbudi and the Jadid Movement.”  
- A literary and educational evening of remembrance will be held at the Alisher Navoi State Academic Bolshoi Theater in November 2025.  
- The Mahmudkhodja Behbudi House-Museum in Samarkand will undergo improvements and its collection expanded.  
- A street in Karshi will be renamed in Behbudi’s honor, accompanied by the installation of a commemorative plaque.  
- Audiovisual content and media materials highlighting Behbudi’s life and achievements will be produced for social media and the internet. 

The extensive program underscores Uzbekistan’s commitment to preserving and promoting the cultural and historical legacy of Mahmudkhodja Behbudi.
