In Uzbekistan, liability may be introduced for offences committed on social media for the purpose of gaining “likes.” This was reported by UzA.

According to the report, a meeting of the Milliy Tiklanish Democratic Party faction in the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis discussed a draft law proposing amendments and additions to the Code of Administrative Responsibility.

Under the proposed bill, administrative liability would be established for certain types of offences, including the use of obscene language on telecommunications networks and social media, committing offences for the purpose of increasing the number of followers and recording and distributing such actions online, making offensive provocations, and other actions that violate public order. The draft law was supported by members of the faction.

It is worth noting that earlier the President of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, introduced amendments to the country’s Criminal Code abolishing criminal liability for liking or reacting with other symbols (emojis) on social media.
