By the law signed by Shavkat Mirziyoyev on October 31, amendments and additions were made to the Criminal and Administrative Responsibility Codes. According to it, a fine has been imposed for polygamy and wearing clothes that cover the face. This was reported by the Ministry of Justice.
According to the law, promoting cohabitation with two or more wives, disseminating views, ideas, or calls to this effect, as well as encouraging such behavior, can result in a fine of up to 30 times the Partial Calculation Amount (from 4 million 950 thousand soums to 9 million 900 thousand soums) or up to 15 days of administrative imprisonment.
Performing a religious marriage ceremony between individuals whose marriage is not registered in accordance with the law, including individuals under the legal age of marriage, will also result in a fine of 15 to 30 times the Partial Calculation Amount.
Additionally, a fine of 10 to 15 times the Partial Calculation Amount (from 3 million 300 thousand to 4 million 950 thousand soums) is imposed on a person who covers their face in public places in a manner that prevents their identity from being identified. Some exceptions to this rule include having a medical permit or when the nature of the person's work requires such face covering.
For information, this law was approved by the Senate after being discussed by the deputies in the Oliy Majlis a few months ago. Following the President's approval, the law officially went into effect on November 1.
It is worth noting that earlier, Sheikh Nuriddin Khaliqnazarov, the chairman of the Office of Muslims of Uzbekistan, expressed his opinion on women wearing burqas.
