CIS summit begins in the Kremlin (video)

9330Today, on October 8, the next session of the CIS State Council began in Moscow. This was reported by the press service of the Kremlin.
A narrow meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the CIS is taking place in the Kremlin. Russian President Vladimir Putin, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokaev, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon, Kyrgyz President Sadir Japarov, Uzbekistan's Shavkat Mirziyoyev, and Turkmenistan's President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, as well as Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, are participating in the meeting.
The opening speech was given by the President of Russia, who is hosting the Commonwealth. He noted that mutual cooperation within the CIS is one of the main priorities of the foreign policy of the Russian Federation.
"For us, the countries of the Commonwealth of Nations are our closest neighbors, friends, and strategic partners, and we are committed to strengthening our cooperation in every way. Russia's 2024 chairmanship concept and a broad plan of related activities are aimed at this. We are grateful to all colleagues present here for their support and active participation in their implementation," Putin said.
He mentioned that today's agenda will focus on economic topics, prospects for further expansion of trade and investment cooperation in the CIS.
"I am sure that we have all the opportunities to launch new, large, mutually beneficial projects in the fields of industry, agriculture, finance, and infrastructure. We will also exchange views on other wide-ranging current topics of the Commonwealth: from ensuring common security to cooperation in cultural and humanitarian spheres," Putin stated.
For information, the 2023 summit of the CIS was also held in October. The leaders of the Commonwealth of Nations met in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, which chaired the organization last year. Seventeen documents were adopted following the meeting, including the agreement on the establishment of an international organization on the Russian language, statements on international relations in a multipolar world, and documents on cooperation in the field of digitization of public administration, as well as support and promotion of the Russian language as a language of international communication.
