The public discussion on the amendments to the Constitution is completed

On 1 August, the public discussion of the draft constitutional law "On amendments and additions to the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan" was completed.  This was announced on the social network page of the constitutional commission.

"As of 1 August, at 00:00, we would like to inform you that the acceptance of proposals for the public discussion has been suspended!

The responsible committees of the Legislative Chamber will continue their work on summarizing, analyzing the proposals received from our people and improving the draft law," - the commission said.

It should be recalled that on 24 June of the current year, the draft constitutional law "On amendments and additions to the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan" was adopted by the MPs in the first reading.  In the Legislative Chamber, a corresponding decision was also made to put the draft law for public discussion.

In addition, the submission of the draft of the constitutional law of the Republic of Uzbekistan "On amendments and additions to the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan" prepared as a result of the public discussion to the referendum of the Republic of Uzbekistan was approved.

However, due to the demonstrations that took place in Karakalpakstan in early July, the deadline for the discussion of the draft constitutional law on amendments and additions to the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan was extended from the 5 - 15 July.

Later, at the meeting of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis (Parliament) of the Republic of Uzbekistan held on 15 July of the current year, it was decided to extend the period of public discussion of the draft constitutional law "On amendments and additions to the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan" until 1 August 2022 and a relevant decision was adopted.
