The Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Abdulaziz Kamilov, and the US State Secretary, Anthony John Blinken, sent congratulatory letters on the thirtieth anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two-countries on 19 February.

In his letter, Abdulaziz Kamilov noted that in recent years, bilateral relations between Uzbekistan and the United States have grown to a new level.

"Our countries have been successfully cooperating on a number of political, economic, and cultural issues and human rights on the basis of mutual respect”, Kamilov stated in his letter.

In that regard, it was pointed out that the traditional ways of consultation had risen to the level of the Strategic Partnership Intercourse, and the first meeting had been successfully held in 2021 in Tashkent.

He also acknowledged effective cooperation with the US in international and regional formats, including the C5+1 mechanism. The importance of combining forces to assist the Afghan people was also emphasised.

In turn, Anthony Blinken praised the program of large-scale political and economic reforms in Uzbekistan. It was noted that the United States was ready to continue to support Uzbekistan’s efforts to achieve ambitious goals.

The letter noted Uzbekistan’s significant contribution to strengthening the C5+1 platform, including mitigating the dangerous consequences of climate change, strengthening regional security and promoting regional prosperity.

At the end of the letter, Anthony Blinken stated that the United States would fully support Uzbekistan’s reform program and continue to work constructively.
For reference, Uzbekistan and the United States officially established diplomatic relations on 19 February, 1992.  In the same year, the United States Embassy opened in Tashkent.
