16513Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida has decided to cancel his planned visit to Central Asian countries. The Prime Minister himself communicated this decision to the press.
"It has been decided to cancel the visit to Central Asian countries and Mongolia," stated the Prime Minister.
Prime Minister Kishida was scheduled to participate in the first summit of the "Central Asia + Japan" dialogue, which was to be held in Kazakhstan, followed by a visit to Uzbekistan. The cancellation of Kishida's visit was prompted by the threat of a severe earthquake in the Japanese archipelago.
The Prime Minister emphasized that in the coming week, the government will focus all its efforts on monitoring the situation and preparing for a possible major earthquake along the Nankai Trough.
It should be noted that earlier reports indicated Kishida was expected to meet with the leaders of five Central Asian countries in Kazakhstan, where he planned to announce a package of economic assistance to the region.
