25887Today, on November 3, the appellate review of the criminal case involving officials who sexually assaulted girls in an orphanage in Khorezm was completed at the Criminal Court of Tashkent City Court, and the verdict was announced. Aziz Abidov, the press secretary of the Supreme Court, informed the public about this.
According to reports, this criminal case was heard in a closed court session in compliance with the requirements of Article 19 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, which mandates the private consideration of criminal cases in court.
"By the judgment of the appellate instance of the Tashkent city court on criminal cases dated November 3, 2023, the part of the judgment of the Khiva district court on criminal cases dated September 6, 2022, concerning A.M. and A.Q., was canceled. The defendants A.M. and A.Q. (charged with sexual intercourse with a person under the age of sixteen) under Part 1 of Article 128-1 (involving a person between the ages of sixteen and eighteen in sexual intercourse by offering material values or creating a property interest) were each sentenced to imprisonment for a term of 3 years, in accordance with Article 59 of the Criminal Code (sentencing for multiple crimes)," stated the Supreme Court's press secretary.
As a result, the precautionary measure in the form of "bail" applied to the defendants was lifted, and Aibek Masharipov and Anvar Kuryazov were arrested right from the courtroom.
To recap, in April of this year, it was reported that three girls in the care of the House of Mercy in Khorezm were sexually assaulted by Oybek Masharipov, the head of the regional Justice Department, and Anvar Kuryazov, the head of the emergency department of Yangiariq district, for a period of 10 months. The Khiva district court initially sentenced them to 1.5 years of imprisonment. Additionally, the head of the orphanage, who had created the conditions for their actions, was sentenced to 5 and a half years in prison. Three defendants appealed the verdict to the Khorezm regional court, but the appellate court upheld the sentence.
Subsequently, Oybek Masharipov and Anvar Kuryazov received a more lenient sentence, prompting a protest that was brought to the cassation instance court of the High Court of the Republic of Uzbekistan on criminal cases. The case was then sent to the Tashkent city court for reconsideration in the appeal procedure.
