In Uzbekistan, citizens who couldn't apply for an old-age pension due to the quarantine will be paid the entire amount of delayed pensions. This was reported by the off-budget Pension Fund under the Ministry of Finance.

It is noted that based on the law of the Republic of Uzbekistan of 9 February, 2022 "On the introduction of amendments and additions to some legislative acts of the Republic of Uzbekistan in connection with the further strengthening of guarantees of the rights of citizens and business entities", in cases where the right to a pension arises during the quarantine period (during the period of validity) and concerns the citizens who could not apply for a pension due to quarantine, even one month after the end of the quarantine, the right to a pension is appointed and paid in one lump sum.

What does that mean?

The quarantine regime in the Republic of Uzbekistan was declared on 24 March 2020 in connection with the Coronavirus pandemic and has not yet been lifted. In this case, even if the applicant applied for a pension in March 2022, although the right to a pension arises after 24 March 2020, the full amount of the pension will be paid to the applicant from the date of the beginning of the pension entitlement.

For example, a citizen (a man) turned 60 on May 1, 2020. For various reasons, however, he was unable to apply to the Pension Fund for a pension on time and applied for a pension in January 2022 (i.e., 20 months later). In this case, the citizen will receive a pension from 1 May 2020, a one-time pension for the period from May 2020 to January 2022 (20 months) will be provided, and then a monthly pension will be determined.
