Uzbekistan national team head coach Fabio Cannavaro said defensive mistakes caused the defeat in the team’s final match of the World Cup group stage. Cannavaro spoke about this at the post-match press conference.
“We spent a lot of energy in the first half. Until now, our physical preparation had been at a good level, and today we also performed well in that regard. We knew our opponent was also a physically well-prepared team. Before the match, we understood very well that it would be difficult if we did not control the ball. In the second half, however, we made mistakes, and that is why we conceded goals,” Cannavaro said.
The coach emphasized that Uzbekistan played a very good first half and created several scoring chances.
“We started the first half very well and had many opportunities. But in the second half, we began making mistakes, and that cost us dearly,” he said.
The Italian specialist also noted that the tournament was a major experience for the team.
“This tournament was a great experience both for me and for the players. I think it will give us great motivation in the future,” the head coach said.
Cannavaro also stressed that he had been in constant communication with the players and knew in advance that they would face strong opponents in the group stage.
“Of course, I spoke a lot with the players. We knew we would be playing against strong teams in our group. But we regret this result. Yes, we made mistakes. However, I do not want to complain about the players at all. They did everything they could, and I am proud of them,” he said.
Earlier, it was reported that Uzbekistan national team lost 3-1 to the Democratic Republic of Congo in the third round of the World Cup.
