The train service between Kazan and Tashkent, suspended in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic, is planned to resume in 2024. This information was reported by the city hall, citing the Minister of Transport and Roads of Tatarstan, Farit Khanifov.
According to the information, the Ministry of Transport and Roads of Tatarstan has submitted a proposal to the Central Directorate of Russian Railways to restore the Tashkent-Kazan route. To proceed with the restoration of this line, approval is required from all the countries through which the railway passes - Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Russia.
"Russia has agreed, and as far as we know, Kazakhstan is currently considering the document. We expect Uzbekistan to also agree soon," stated Khanifov.
Additionally, there is a discussion about increasing the frequency of flights between Tatarstan and Uzbekistan.
"In aviation, there are currently two flights per week on the Kazan-Tashkent route. We are looking into the possibility of daily flights. Furthermore, there are flights from Kazan to Samarkand and Ferghana," added Farit Khanifov.
It is worth mentioning that earlier it was reported that flights to Israel have not been canceled. According to Uzbekistan Airways, the upcoming flights from Tel Aviv to Tashkent are scheduled for October 10, 12, and 15.
