A girl who lost her mother in an accident in Kazakhstan has been returned to Uzbekistan, the Children’s Ombudsman reported.

According to the statement, the Ombudsman received an appeal from E.A., a citizen residing in the Beruniy district of the Republic of Karakalpakstan.

In her appeal, E.A. stated that her daughter, D.R., who has a minor daughter born in 2010, married a Kazakh citizen several years ago. The child, born in the Beruniy district, is a citizen of Uzbekistan. However, her mother also obtained a birth certificate for the child in Kazakhstan.

In August 2024, D.R. died in a road accident in Kazakhstan. As a result, the minor, E.M., was left without parental care. E.A. requested practical assistance in bringing her granddaughter back to Uzbekistan.

With the support of the Children’s Ombudsman, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the Consulate General of Uzbekistan in Kazakhstan, coordinated measures were taken to return the child. Assistance was also provided in the timely processing of E.M.’s documents.

As a result, on May 12, the minor girl was brought to Uzbekistan accompanied by her aunt and was placed under the care of her grandmother, E.A.

At present, the legal process to formalize the grandmother’s guardianship is underway.

It is worth noting that earlier, three minor citizens were returned to Uzbekistan from Russia. They had been left without parental care and were accompanied by employees of the Altufevo Social Rehabilitation Center in Moscow.
