Kazakhstan's new railway to Uzbekistan set for 2027 launch

2935Kazakhstan plans to launch a new railway to Uzbekistan in 2027. This was reported by the press service of Kazakhstan Railways.
Its launch will increase export volumes in 2027. Work on the 100 km section of the Darboza-Maktaoral railway line connecting the two countries has been completed. The project plans to install rail sleeper fences on a 203 km section. Of the planned 9.5 million cubic meters of earthworks, 1.4 million cubic meters (15 percent) have been completed.
46 road construction equipment and more than 70 people are involved in the project. The construction of the railway involves the use of materials from local manufacturers. During the construction period, 3,400 temporary jobs will be created by 2027, and more than 500 jobs will be created during the commissioning process.
It is reported that the Kazakhstan Railways company, which is part of the Samruk-Khazina national holding, is investing about 286 billion tenge ($545 million) in the commissioning of the Darboza-Maktaoral route in 2027.
Earlier, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said that more than 5,000 kilometers of railways will be built by 2030 to increase the republic's transport and logistics potential.
It is worth recalling that the construction of a railway line to Uzbekistan in Kazakhstan began in November 2023. The construction of the new railway line will allow the redirection of cargo from the existing Saryagosh-Tashkent section to the new line, eliminate congestion at the Saryagosh railway station, and increase the volume of export transportation throughout Uzbekistan. In addition, the project will contribute to the development of the Turkestan region by connecting it to the main railway network of the republic.
