Cases of coal theft, intended for heating social sector facilities, have been uncovered in the Republic of Karakalpakstan and Namangan region. This was reported by the Department of Combating Economic Crimes.

According to the investigation, officials of the coal supplier “N.A.” LLC were found to have stolen 2,514 tons of coal, valued at a total of 1 billion soums, which had been allocated for heating social facilities.

Similarly, during the pre-investigation process in Namangan’s Kosansoy district, it was revealed that O.K., the head of “O.D.” LLC, along with others, embezzled 609.9 tons of coal worth 263.1 million soums. The coal, intended for budget organizations during the autumn-winter season, was illegally sold to other individuals at inflated prices.

“A criminal case has been initiated under Article 167 of the Criminal Code (plunder by embezzlement or appropriation), and investigations are currently underway,” the department stated.

It is worth noting that similar incidents of coal theft had been previously uncovered in Karakalpakstan, as well as in the Khorezm and Namangan regions.
