The bridge connecting Karakalpakstan and Khorezm collapsed

A photo showing the collapse of a bridge under construction in the Amudarya district of the Republic of Karakalpakstan was circulated on social networks.  The government of Amudarya district made an official statement regarding the situation.

It is noted that during the visit of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to the Khorezm region in 2020, the construction of a joint road and railway bridge over the Amudarya river connecting the Republic of Karakalpakstan and the Khorezm region had begun.

"Uzbekistan Railways" Joint Stock Company is the customer of the new bridge construction project, "Boshtransloyiha" Joint Stock Company is the main designer, and the constituent units of Uzbekistan Railways" Joint Stock Company are the main contractor.

In order to establish a railway transport network from the territory of Amudarya district to the territory of Khorezm region, a suspension bridge was constructed from the distance of 717-718 km of the Guzor-Bukhara-Nukus-Beynev highway passing through the northern part of the territory of Amudarya district.

Temporary support girders were installed on this bridge by the Bridge Construction Squad No. 14.  Yesterday morning, 23 March, two temporary support girders of this bridge collapsed due to unknown reasons.

These beams are temporarily installed and are considered as auxiliary tools in the construction of the bridge.  No one was injured in the incident.

"Relevant specialists and laboratory workers have been summoned from Tashkent to clarify this situation," the report says.
