According to the Main Department of Internal Affairs of Tashkent, a report was received about a car theft in the Mirzo Ulugbek district.
"As it turned out, an unknown individual stole a Mercedes that had been left unlocked on Mirishkor Street and fled the scene," the report stated.
Law enforcement officers quickly took action to locate the vehicle and return it to its owner. The stolen car was found and stopped on Zargarlik Street in the Uchtepa district. The suspect and the vehicle were handed over to criminal investigation officers. It was determined that the perpetrator, born in 1998, took advantage of the unlocked vehicle and drove away with it.
“I was interested in the car. I didn’t know what to do after getting in, so I just drove off. I drove around the city and stopped in the Uchtepa district. As soon as I got out, officers arrived and arrested me,” the suspect admitted.
Shukurullo Isroilov urged everyone to be cautious.
“I left my car unlocked with the key inside and went away for a while. When I returned, the car was gone. At first, I thought someone was playing a prank, but then I realized it had actually been stolen,” he said.
A criminal case has been opened under Article 267 of the Criminal Code of Uzbekistan (hijacking a vehicle), and the suspect has been taken into custody. Those convicted under this article face prison sentences ranging from 5 to 20 years.
