A court has sentenced an individual who attempted to illegally transfer approximately 80 million Russian rubles to Kyrgyzstan, as reported by the State Security Service.

In December 2023, State Security Service personnel swiftly intercepted a Lacetti vehicle driven by a Namangan resident born in 1990, near the "Uzbek-Kyrgyz" border in the Yangiqorgon district of the Namangan region, adjacent to the Ola-buqa district of the Jalolobod region of Kyrgyzstan. Upon inspection, authorities discovered 79,994,900 Russian rubles concealed in three polyethylene bags within the car's cabin, which were seized according to legal procedures.

It was noted that the individual had been promised a service fee for smuggling the currency across the border and had previously conducted similar illegal transfers four times.

A criminal case was subsequently initiated, leading to investigative actions. The Yangiqorgon district court found the individual guilty under paragraph "a'' of Articles 25, 28, and 182 (Violation of Customs Law) of the Criminal Code, sentencing him to five years of imprisonment. The seized 79,994,900 Russian rubles were confiscated by the state as per the court's decision.

Previously, other individuals attempting to smuggle 1.4 kg of gold, disguised as a chain, tooth mold, and crowbar, from Uzbekistan to Kyrgyzstan were also apprehended.
