Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan have agreed to transfer convicted citizens to each other, according to a report by 24.kg.

The Kyrgyz Parliament adopted the draft law in its third reading, paving the way for the implementation of the agreement.

Deputy Prosecutor General Umutkan Konkubayeva informed lawmakers that 42 Kyrgyz citizens are currently serving sentences in Uzbekistan, while 97 Uzbek citizens are incarcerated in Kyrgyzstan. Under the new agreement, these individuals will be transferred to their home countries to complete their sentences.

The bilateral agreement on the transfer of convicts was signed on July 18, 2024, in Tashkent.

Uzbekistan has recently signed similar agreements with other countries. On November 25, 2023, during the 47th plenary session of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, a law facilitating the extradition and transfer of convicts between Uzbekistan and Italy was approved. Additionally, on January 20, 2024, the Uzbek Senate ratified an agreement with Iran, allowing for the transfer of convicts between the two countries. This agreement was originally signed in Tehran on June 18, 2023.
