7423An analysis of criminal cases reviewed by courts in 2023 revealed that the greatest damage to state interests due to corruption-related crimes occurred in the Andijan, Namangan, Kashkadarya, and Tashkent regions. Additionally, the number of corruption-related offenses increased in the Surkhandarya and Andijan regions. These findings were presented during a meeting of the Senate Committee on Judiciary and Anti-corruption on September 19.
During the session, the Anti-Corruption Agency provided an overview of its 2023 activities. Senators highlighted that despite progress, there remain significant challenges in combating corruption.
The analysis further showed that most individuals convicted of corruption crimes were employees of preschool and school educational institutions, commercial banks, healthcare organizations, and local government administrations.
Shortcomings were also identified in the organization of internal control within certain state agencies. Of the 996 internal control units established across 37 state bodies, 172 positions (17.2%) remain vacant, and 35 employees across six organizations are assigned additional duties.
Moreover, in 20 state bodies, key documents related to internal control have yet to be developed, and in 13 of these, the system is not functioning effectively.
During the discussion, Senate members proposed several measures to enhance the anti-corruption efforts of the Anti-Corruption Agency, various ministries, and local government bodies.
