Sand thieves were apprehended in Kashkadarya

8996Individuals engaging in the unauthorized extraction of sand were apprehended in the Guzor district of the Kashkadarya region. The Department for Combating Economic Crimes made this announcement today, March 25.
The incident came to light during a swift operation conducted jointly by the Kashkadarya regional department, the Guzor district department under the General Prosecutor's Office, and personnel from the Regional Ecology, Environmental Protection, Climate Change, and "Safe River" departments.
It is reported that citizen R.Q. and accomplices, in pursuit of illicit profits, caused 948.6 million soums in damages to the state and society by unlawfully extracting 9.5 thousand cubic meters of sand from the protected area of the Kashkadarya river, spanning Guzor and Karshi districts.
Criminal proceedings have been initiated under Article 229 (arbitrariness) of the Criminal Code in connection with these incidents, with ongoing investigations.
It's worth recalling that just 10 days ago, on March 15, illegal sand mining operations were discovered in Kashkadarya, resulting in 19,433,914,337 soums worth of environmental damage.
