A person detained in Egypt on charges of committing extortion has been extradited to Uzbekistan. The Ministry of Internal Affairs reported this.

According to the ministry, as a result of joint operations by the National Central Bureaus of Interpol in Uzbekistan and Egypt, an Uzbek citizen who was internationally wanted for committing fraud was identified and detained in Egypt.

Since there are no direct flights between Cairo and Tashkent, the extradition route was organized in transit through the Russian Federation. The Russian National Central Bureau of Interpol assisted in ensuring unobstructed transit through Domodedovo International Airport.

After being brought to Uzbekistan, the extradited person was handed over to the competent law enforcement authorities to be held criminally liable in accordance with national legislation.

“The measures taken once again confirmed the high effectiveness of international police cooperation through Interpol, as well as the commitment of law enforcement agencies to the principle of the inevitability of responsibility for committed crimes,” the report said.

Earlier, it was reported that two internationally wanted persons had been detained in Türkiye and returned to Uzbekistan.
