France’s newly appointed ambassador to Uzbekistan, Walid Fouque, presented copies of his credentials to Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov today, September 4. The minister announced this on his social media pages.

“The relations between Uzbekistan and France, built on a strong historical foundation and rich traditions, have in recent years advanced rapidly and reached the level of a strategic partnership. Today, cooperation spans all areas, from the economy to culture. At the same time, the existing potential is even broader, and realizing it will fully require the joint efforts of our diplomats.

We wish the ambassador great success and productive work during his mission in our country”, the minister wrote.

Walid Fouque, the newly appointed ambassador of France to Uzbekistan, is a career diplomat holding the rank of Minister Plenipotentiary, second class. He earned a degree in Public Relations from the Paris Institute of Political Studies and worked at the Directorate for Strategic Affairs, Security, and Disarmament of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs between 2010 and 2014.

From 2014 to 2017, he served as “political counselor” at the French embassy in Beijing, and later, from 2017 to 2019, at France’s permanent mission to the United Nations in New York. He then returned to the Central administration as director for Asia, Oceania, and the Far East (2019–2020).

Between 2020 and 2025, Fouque was appointed adviser to the President of France on Asia, Oceania, and the Americas.

As of August 27, 2025, he officially assumed his post as the ambassador of France to Uzbekistan.

The new ambassador succeeded Aurelia Bouchez, who served as France’s ambassador to Uzbekistan from October 2021 to August 2025.

It is worth noting that the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, awarded French ambassador Aurélia Bouchez the “Dostlik” (Friendship) order on August 14 in recognition of her significant contribution to strengthening relations of friendship and strategic partnership between the two countries.
